New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is looking at six of the top United States banks, including JPMorgan, concerning reports that they are unfairly utilizing databases to disqualify people seeking to open checking or savings accounts, according to The New York Times, citing knowledgeable sources,. The sources said that Bank of America Corp. and Citibank Inc. are among other banks that received letters from Schneiderman. The banks have until Tuesday to set up a meeting and discuss the matter with the office.

An analysis of Travelers’ claim data in Texas during the last two years indicates that August is the most dangerous month of the year for job-related injuries. Employers in Texas filed more workers compensation claims in August than any other month, with the claims often arising from injuries that could be avoided, such as strains, sprains, lacerations, and contusions. Using the data, Travelers is helping Texas employers take useful steps to help keep their workers safe. Travelers Regional Vice President Kim Bittle observed, “Employees are the backbone of any successful company, so it is important that employers take steps to keep them healthy and safe at work. The good news is many of these injuries are avoidable, and business owners can take advantage of risk management tools that help them build effective safety strategies in the workplace.”

The White House said on Thursday that President Barack Obama will name the former United Technologies employee and former congressional aide Deborah Lee James as Secretary of the United States Air Force. James currently heads the technology and engineering sector at Science Applications International Corp., and has been an executive with that firm since 2004, according to the White House. She served as assistant secretary of defense for reserve affairs from 1993 to 1998. The President remarked, “Deborah’s strong record of public service and leadership in the private sector makes her uniquely qualified to be my nominee for Secretary of the Air Force.”
